Latin America: stock market growth rate 2020

Shortly after the first COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the largest Latin American economies, some of the most important stock market indexes in the region plummeted. From February 19 to April 6 of 2020, the Brazilian stock exchange index IBOVESPA showed the largest decrease among the stock indexes shown in this graph. On April 6, 2020 the IBOVESPA decreased almost 37 percent in value, compared to the closing quote on February 19. In the indicated period, Chile's IPSA stock market index had the smallest decrease, with approximately 17 percent on April 6 in comparison to February 19.
