South Korea: most popular videos on JYP YouTube channel 2023

As of January 2023, the most popular video on JYP Entertainment's YouTube channel was the official music video of girl group TWICE's 2018 song "What is Love?", with around 696 million views. Except for one video by GOT7, “Just right”, TWICE dominated JYP's YouTube channel viewership numbers. GOT7 have since left the company, while TWICE is preparing to debut its members as soloists. This is often considered the next step in a successful group’s career development.

The nation’s girl group TWICE

TWICE is a nine-member girl group that debuted in 2015 with members from South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. They quickly rose to popularity and commercial success, and have been one of the best-selling female K-pop artists over the past few years. While K-pop is slowly becoming more globally recognized, Japan has been an important overseas market for the South Korean music industry for years. It is standard practice to have an official Japanese debut a few months or years after first debuting in South Korea. Having three Japanese members gives the group a leg up in the Japanese market, which is also reflected in the origin of TWICE’s YouTube views.

The upcoming JYP generation

While TWICE has long been one of JYP Entertainment’s most successful artists, the company has successfully debuted and established several other acts after them as well. Most notably among those are eight-member boy group Stray Kids (SKZ) and four-member girl group ITZY, who debuted in 2017 and 2019 respectively. While TWICE and ITZY dominate album sales by female artists, Stray Kids are also one of the best-selling male artists in South Korea.
