Japan: Tankan business sentiment index by company size 2023

The Tankan survey, conducted from August to September 2023, revealed that the Diffusion Index (DI) of business conditions evaluated by large enterprises in Japan stood at 17 points. Among medium-sized enterprises, the index reached 12 points.

The Tankan survey stands for the Short-Term Economic Survey of Enterprises in Japan. It is conducted once in three months with the aim of providing an accurate picture of business trends of enterprises in Japan. The target of the survey are private enterprises (excluding financial institutions) in the country with a capital of 20 million Japanese yen and more.
