Green bonds were created as an instrument to earmark finance for climate and environmental projects. Since the issue of the first green bond in 2007, the green bond market has been growing. In 2020, a total of 153 green bonds valued at 52.8 billion U.S. dollars were listed on the Euronext stock exchange. Since 2012, Dublin was the leading venue for green bonds listing by volume with a total of 242 green bonds between 2012 and July 2021.
