People wearing face masks outside during the coronavirus pandemic in the UK 2020

As of June 7, it was found that over 57 percent of survey respondents in the United Kingdom had not been wearing a face mask outside to protect themselves and others from the coronavirus (COVID-19), although the share who are not wearing a face mask has declined since the end of March. In the first survey wave around eight percent of respondents were always wearing a face mask outside, by the latest survey wave this had increased to over 17 percent. From June 15, the wearing of face masks on public transport will be compulsory in England, although this has not yet been made compulsory in other parts of the UK. Compared to the UK, some other European countries introduced the wearing of face masks earlier into the pandemic.
