Weekly number of retail and wholesale bankruptcies in the Netherlands 2020-2021

The number of retail and wholesale bankruptcies in the Netherlands fluctuated greatly in 2020 and 2021. Whereas there were only five bankruptcies in week nine of 2020, 18 retailers and wholesale businesses closed up shop in week four of 2021. The number of bankruptcies was expected to rise due to the downturn of the economy caused by the coronavirus crisis, but financial support from the government seemed to keep many businesses alive. In fact, at the height of the second coronavirus wave in November and December, there were fewer bankruptcies than before the pandemic.
