Impact of COVID-19 on safari bookings in Africa 2021

As of June 2021, 80 percent of safari tour operators in Africa registered a decrease of 75 percent or more in the number of bookings. The contraction is directly related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, that led to a reduction in the tourism flow worldwide. Only 2.1 percent of businesses owners related no change. Around 12.4 billion U.S. dollars in revenue are generated annually by the safari industry in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
