Leading visitor attractions in the United Kingdom (UK) 2019
Museums top attractions?
The popularity of museums and galleries in London is relatively unsurprising considering the sheer number of tourists in the capital and the UK’s cultural policy, that offers free admission to public museums. When considering paid attractions in London, the Tower of London and Royal Botanic Gardens (Kew Gardens) rank among the most visited.
Regional attractions fail to compete with London
London is the most visited UK city by international tourists, making it tough for other regions to compete. Despite attempts to move national museums to other big cities, such as the Royal Armouries in Leeds, visitor numbers are rarely as high as in London. Still, outside of London attractions in the Scottish capital Edinburgh still rank highly, with the Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum of Scotland attracting over two million visitors in 2018 respectively.
