Sales average price of watermelons in South Africa 2000-2019
As of the crop year 2018/2019, the average price of watermelons on markets in South Africa was measured at 3,138 South African rands (208 U.S. dollars) per metric ton. It was the highest value registered since 2000/2001, when one metric ton of watermelons cost in average 709 Rands (47 U.S. dollars). Overall, the price of watermelons has strongly increased in the last decades. Regardless of this increasing trend, a major drop inprice was recorded in 2010/2011. This comes in the same period when the production of watermelons increase considerably.
