On January 6, 2021, protestors stormed the U.S. Capitol while Congress was in the process of certifying the Electoral College votes for the 2020 presidential election. Protestors in favor of President Donald Trump gained access to the Capitol, resulting in the vote certification being interrupted and the evacuation of the U.S. Congress. According to a survey conducted on the same day, 27 percent of Republican respondents considered these actions to be a threat to democracy, compared to 93 percent of Democrats and 55 percent of Independents.
