Economic impact of terrorism in Africa 2007-2019, by country
Between 2007 and 2019, the economic impact of terrorism in Nigeria reached approximately 142 billion U.S. dollars, by far the largest value in Africa. Libya suffered the second highest economic impact, with about five billion U.S. dollars. Several militant groups are active in Nigeria, with Boko Haram being the deadliest terrorist group, an affiliate of the Islamic State. In terms of life losses and attacks, Nigeria and Somalia are the countries most impacted by terrorism. In Somalia, the militant group of Al-Shabaab, also a jihadist fundamentalist group, is responsible for a very large part of all terrorist attacks carried out in the country.
