Economic cost of terrorism in Africa 2019, by country
In 2019, the economic cost of terrorism in Nigeria was equal to 2.4 percent of the country's GDP. In Burkina Faso and in Mali, the economic cost reached 1.9 percent of their GDP, respectively. Nigeria has the highest terrorism threat level in Africa and one of the firsts in the world. Nigeria's political, economic, and social instabilities have led to violence and deaths. Several militant groups are active in Nigeria, leading to attacks on both civilian and military targets. Boko Haram is by far the deadliest terrorist group, a jihadist terrorist organization.
