
Tsunami risk index in Latin America & the Caribbean 2022, by country
Andean countries with coasts to the Pacific Ocean were the Latin America and the Caribbean nations most exposed to tsunamis. According to a risk index calculated based on the estimated number of people exposed to this type of geophysical event per year, Peru faced the greatest risk of tsunami in the region, with a hazard score of 9.3 points. Ecuador and Chile followed close, at 9.2 and 9.1, respectively.
