Among the OECD countries, Canada had the highest proportion of tertiary education graduates in 2020. About 59.9 percent of Canadians had achieved a tertiary education in that year. Japan followed with about 52.7 percent of the population having completed a tertiary education, while in Luxembourg the share was roughly 51.3 percent. In Mexico, a tertiary education was the highest education level achieved for around 19.4 percent of the adult population.
