As of the academic year 2023/24, the Tribhuvan University in Nepal had the highest number of registered students in terms of full-time equivalents worldwide, reaching 482,000 students. The Payame Noor University in Iran and Al-Azhar University in Egypt, who followed on the places behind, had approximately 430,000 and 270,000 registered students, respectively. A high number of the universities with the highest number of students in the world are located in Egypt.
