While the production volume of cereal remained rather stable between 2008 and 2015 - fluctuating between 64 and 73 million tons, there was a sudden drop in 2016. That year, fields suffered from bad weather conditions in France. These cold temperatures, excessive rainfall, and lack of light resulted in diseases such as fusarium and insect pests. Nonetheless, since then, cereal production has remained over 63 million tons, except in 2020 when production dropped under 60 million tons.
