Digital challenger banks have increased in popularity and in number in recent year. In 2013, there were a total of 37 digital challenger banks worldwide. As of the first half of 2020, this figure reached 246. The region with the highest number of challenger banks was the Americas, which counted 111 of them, nearly half of the total.
