In 2021, approximately 11.7 thousand yakuza members were arrested in Japan, due to offenses such as drug crimes, assault, theft, fraud, and blackmail. The number of arrested crime syndicate members declined continuously throughout the surveyed period. This decline can be attributed to the decreasing number of yakuza members in Japan. The term yakuza refers to Japanese transnational criminal organizations and their members.
