Clearance rate Japan 2020, by charge
In 2020, the clearance rate of the offenses involving the violation of the Act on Punishment of Physical Violence and Others stood at around 100 percent. The Act on Punishment of Physical Violence and Others was enacted in 1926 to supplement the Penal Code and punish mob violence and chronic violence such as domestic violence in households. Despite recording the highest crime rate among all Penal Code offenses, the clearance rate of theft remained low at about 41 percent in 2020.
