Number of university students in Iceland 2020, by subject and gender
In Iceland, social sciences, business, and law was the most popular field of study among university students in 2020. Over 7,500 people studied this subject, of which almost 5,000 were women. Health and welfare, and education were the second and third most popular subjects, respectively. Both of them were dominated by women. Sciences, mathematics, and computers, and engineering, manufacturing, and construction, on the other hand, had a high share of male students.
