Regular average annual earnings of primary school teachers in Iceland 2014-2021

Primary school teachers in Iceland earn less than the total average income level in the country. Even though they have had an increase in earnings since 2014, they still earned 200,000 Icelandic Krona less per year than the average population in 2021. Primary school teachers in Iceland earned averagely 623,000 Icelandic Krona in 2021, whereas the total average income was 823,000. Despite the gap growing from 176,000 Krona in 2014 to 200,000 in 2021, the margin actually fell; in 2014, primary school teachers' wages were 69 percent of the national average, but this grew to almost 76 percent in 2021.

There is a significant income gap between men and women in Iceland, and a high share of primary school teachers are women.
