Primary school teachers in Iceland earn less than the total average income level in the country. Even though they have had an increase in earnings since 2014, they still earned 195,000 Icelandic Krona less than the average population in 2022. Primary school teachers in Iceland earned averagely 650,000 Icelandic krona in 2022, whereas the total average income was 745,000. Despite the gap growing from 176,000 Krona in 2014 to 195,000 in 2021, the margin actually fell; in 2014, primary school teachers' wages were 69 percent of the national average, but this grew to almost 89 percent in 2022.
