The average monthly rent of apartments in California increased substantially in the past year. As of September 2021, the average rent of a two-bedroom apartment in California cost almost 2,000 U.S. dollars, which was an increase of over 200 U.S. dollars from September 2020. Nevertheless, not all metropolitan areas saw rents rise at the same pace. In San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, rents actually fell during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
