As of 2021, individual retirement accounts (IRAs) were relatively common among households in the United States. In fact, almost one-third of the households in the United States had both an individual retirement account and an employer-sponsored retirement plan in 2021. Another 26 percent of the households in the country had only an employer-sponsored retirement plan.
