US: IRA assets by investment type 1995-2021

The total value of individual retirement account (IRA) assets in the United States increased considerably between 1995 and 2021. As of 2021, total assets of IRAs in the United States reached a value of 14 trillion U.S. dollars, of which 6.2 trillion U.S. dollars were invested in mutual funds, accounting for roughly 44 percent of total IRA assets.
