GHG emissions by buildings in Germany 1990-2020, by type
In 2020, residential buildings were responsible for 76 percent of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions coming from buildings in Germany. During the last three decades, the GHG emitted by buildings have been reduced from 209.7 million tonnes in 1990 to 119.4 million tonnes in 2020. The volume of investment in green buildings in Germany has been growing since 2009, which could help reduce this sector's carbon footprint.
