Abstention rate in parliamentary elections in France 1958-2022
In France, it is common for voter turnout to drop between the two rounds of legislative elections, but in the 2017 election, the proportions were quite unprecedented. Between the first and second rounds, the abstention rate rose by more than seven points. In the first round of the 2022 election, the rate was 52.3 percent. However, this is not a record considering other electoral ballots. In the 2009 European elections, for instance, the abstention rate was over 59 percent.
