Art-related non-fungible tokens (NFTs) were the most popular type of NFTs purchased by high net worth (HNW) collectors worldwide in 2021. According to a December 2021 study, NFT art projects accounted for 31 percent of non-fungible tokens bought by HNW collectors that year. Meanwhile, gaming and metaverse NFTs represented 16 percent of purchases in 2021.

The source defined high net worth (HNW) collectors as individuals who have a current net worth, excluding real estate and private business assets, in excess of one million U.S. dollars. Additionally, to be included in the survey, collectors were required to have spent at least 10,000 U.S. dollars on fine or decorative art in both 2020 and 2021.

The source specified that the surveyed high net worth collectors were from the following markets: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, Singapore, and Brazil.
