After rising sharply in the first two years of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, peaking at 800 million U.S. dollars in 2021, the auction house's online sales generated around 580 million U.S. dollars in 2022. That year, total sales of Sotheby's amounted to approximately eight billion U.S. dollars, the highest figure ever reported by the company.
