According to a survey conducted between August and October 2023 in Japan, around 63 percent of passenger car owners were knowledgeable about model names and characteristics of hybrid vehicles. In contrast, 22 percent of respondents were familiar with fuel cell vehicles.

*The target group was private households in Japan, regardless of automobile ownership. In automobile-owning households, the main driver of the vehicle bought most recently had to respond. In the other ones, the person in the center of the household economy had to respond. Households were randomly selected in a two-step process, first determining 300 survey points reflecting regional population sizes, then conducting random walks from each point.
This survey item targeted passenger car owners, interrogating their knowledge of model names and characteristics for each vehicle type.
