Share of GHG emissions in Sub-Saharan Africa 2020, by sector
As of 2020, the majority of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Sub-Saharan Africa originated from land-use change and forestry, and the agriculture sector. These accounted for 37 percent and 27 percent of the total emissions of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases, respectively. Energy followed as the third leading emitting sector, releasing 26 percent of the region's GHG emissions that year.
