In 2022, the total planted area of tobacco large estates in Indonesia was estimated at around 0.7 thousand hectares. Indonesia has one of the highest smoking rates in the world and is one of the biggest producers of tobacco worldwide. The tobacco industry is one of Indonesia's largest contributors to employment, economic growth, and tax revenue collection. Most tobaccos in Indonesia was produced by smallholder estates.
