EU: natural gas demand in industrial sector

In 2020, the feedstock subsector of the chemical industry was the leading consumer of natural gas in the European Union, with a consumption of around 215 terawatt hours. Meanwhile, the food sector was found to have the greatest consumption reduction capability. By 2027, this industry sector could see natural gas use decrease more than three-fold when taking into account development potential of current alternative fuel pilot projects.
