Actively detected cancer cases share by type Russia

In 2023, approximately four in ten first-diagnosed breast cancers in Russia were identified though a regular, routine, or non-related medical check-up. On the other hand, pancreas malignant neoplasms had a much lower active diagnosis rate, at seven percent. The share of new cancers identified actively increased in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Active detection of a malignant neoplasm can take place during:
1) mass preventive examinations at enterprises;
2) compulsory medical examination of certain groups of the adult population;
3) examination at parademical points;
4) screening programs (mammography, cytoscreening).
5) dispensary examinations of patients who were under dispensary observation of doctors of the general medical network;
6) in-depth examinations for the presence of oncological diseases in persons who were hospitalized for other illnesses.
