Highest-grossing openings of video game movies in the U.S. and Canada 2023

As of October 2023, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (2023) held the record of the highest-grossing opening by a movie based on a video game with a total of 146.4 million U.S. dollars garnered domestically. It was more than twice as much as the "Sonic the Hedgehog" sequel in 2022, which grossed about 72 million U.S. dollar during its theatrical opening.
