Europe had 125 projects in the commercial carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities pipelines as of March 2024. Of this total, 115 were in construction or development, while four were operational. CCS technologies involve capturing CO₂ emitted from the burning of fossil fuels or from other industrial processes and sequestering the CO₂ in underground storage facilities.
