French opinion on the social ladder in the suburbs in July 2023
According to a survey conducted in July 2023, a few days after the fatal shooting murder of Nahel Merzouk by a police officer and after the riots, which mostly happened in suburban areas of Paris, a total of 58 percent of French respondents believed that the social ladder, meaning the possibility for someone to reach a better standard of living than their parents, was not working well in suburban areas of France.
