Average annual forest-related carbon flux in Malaysia 2001-2022
Forest-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Malaysia from activities like urbanization and commodity driven deforestation averaged 236 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) per year between 2001 and 2022. Meanwhile, forests absorbed 107 MtCO₂e per year on average during this same time frame, representing average net emissions of 129 MtCO₂e per year. Malaysia had one of the highest rates of primary tropical forest loss worldwide in 2022.
