Currency in circulation in Africa 2021-2024, by country
As of 2024, Algeria circulated the highest amount of cash in Africa compared to other countries on the continent. In the said year, currency in the value of nearly 60 billion U.S. dollars was in circulation in the country. Moreover, according to recent data, banknotes and coins in circulation in Morocco and Egypt added up to around 37.2 billion U.S. dollars (2022) and 23 billion U.S. dollars (2023), respectively.
