In the United States, online sales of food and beverages surged with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, due to the enforced restrictions affecting brick-and-mortar stores, before increasing again in 2021. That year, e-commerce sales of food, beer, and wine amounted to nearly 38 billion U.S. dollars.
