Number of cinema sites in the UK 2016-2020, by type
In 2020, there were 985 cinema sites in the United Kingdom, down from 1,080 a year earlier – an annual decline of almost nine percent. Also in 2020, multiplexes – establishments with five screens or more – accounted for 40 percent of all movie theaters in the UK, the same share recorded in 2016. The number of cinema screens in the UK decreased by two percent between 2019 and 2020.
