by Daniel Clark, last edited Jun 27, 2019
Population of the United Kingdom, by gender 2018 In 2018 the population of the United Kingdom was over 66 million, with 33.65 million females and 32.79 million males. This gender distribution is reflected in all four countries that make up the United Kingdom, with over half a million more women in England than men, and 100 thousand more females than males in Scotland.
Small island, big population
The data displayed here is the mid-year population of the United Kingdom for 2018, which is the official population statistic used between censuses. In this year, the population of the United Kingdom was the largest it has ever been, and with growth expected to continue, the forecasted population of the United Kingdom is expected to reach over 70 million by the 2030s. Compared to other European countries, the UK has a population slightly larger than France but smaller than Russia and Germany.

London dwarves’ other cities
The population of the United Kingdom is not evenly distributed across the country. Within England, the city of London has a population of over 8 million making it significantly bigger than the next largest cities of Birmingham and Manchester. Like the United Kingdom as a whole, the population of London is forecasted to grow in the future, although the number of men in the capital is expected to overtake the number of women by 2020.
