In 2019, there were over 14.28 million baby boomers in the United Kingdom, making it the largest generational cohort at that time, with the millennial generation a close second at 14.22 million people. Generation X are the third-largest generation here at 13.96 million people, with their parent's generation, the Silent Generation numbering around 5.6 million people.

The baby boomer generation is the largest due to the spike in births that happened after the Second World War. In 1947 for example, there were over 1 million births in the United Kingdom, compared with just 657 thousand thirty years later in 1977.

Largest age groups in the UK

The most common age group in the United Kingdom in 2017, were those aged between 50 and 54, with 4.67 million of them, followed by the 4.57 million people aged between 45 and 49. In this same year there were around 580 thousand people who were over the age of 90, and 3.96 million under the age of five.
