The region between West Virginia and Florida was the most popular destination for recreational fishing in the United States in 2021, accounting for 22 percent of participants surveyed. By contrast, the region that comprises the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island recorded the lowest share of fishing participation.
