Since 2000, the United Kingdom has been reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to tackle environmental impact issues, with the highest emission being carbon dioxide. After reaching its first target, reduce GHG emissions in at least 80 percent compared to 1990 levels, the nations new target is to achieve a net zero target by 2050.

Between 2010 and 2016, energy supply emissions presented a trend of decline and was the major source of GHG emissions. However, from 2016 onwards, transport became the main source of UK's GHG emissions.
