Lip Balm

Lip balm and cold sore medication are wax-like substances that are applied topically to the lips in order to relieve various ailments. The primary purpose of these medicated products is to provide an occlusive layer on the lips in order to seal in moisture and protect them from external exposure.

In the United States, Burt's Bees was the leading lip balm/treatment brand, generating 12.1 percent of the category's total dollar sales. The entire health and beauty category regarding lip cosmetic products generated 822.8 million U.S. dollars in 2015. These numbers have been calculated by taking total U.S. sales throughout food, drug and mass merchandise outlets for the 52 weeks ended October 4, 2015.

Burt's Bees is a subsidiary of Clorox, an American worldwide manufacturer and marketer of consumer and professional products. In 2015, Clorox reported global net sales worth in excess of 5.66 billion U.S. dollars, an increase compared to previous years, while the global gross profit of the company amounted to over 2 billion U.S. dollars that same year. The company’s yearly financial reports show four distinct revenue streams, namely Cleaning, Household, Lifestyle and International.
