Same-sex marriage was legalized in France in 2013, Since then the number of same-sex marriages in France reached 7,751 marriages in 2015, with the highest number recorded the previous year with 10,522 nuptials. In general, France would come in second in a statistic with reference to number of marriages in Europe in 2014, excluding seven European countries for which data was unavailable to the source. By comparison, the number of divorces in France has also been declining by a rate of 8 percent between 2004 and 2014. In the most recent surveyed year, the number of divorces amounted to 120.5 thousand, roughly 30 thousand divorces less than in 2005 at their highest.
