Experiences of family tensions during Christmas in France 2022, by gender and type
In France, Christmas celebrations are not necessarily synonyms of joy and good mood: surveyed at the end of 2022, the majority of heterosexual French people having already attended a Christmas party as a couple said they had experienced family tensions during this period. However, the distribution of the forms of tension experienced is not equivalent for men and women. For instance, more women (67 percent), being socialized to be more reserved than their male counterparts, had ever held back from expressing what they thought than men, while 39 percent of men, being socialized to be more assertive, had experienced an argument with a guest with whom they disagreed, compared to 31 percent of women.
