CO2 emissions worldwide, having emitted roughly 400 billion metric tons of CO2 since the 1700's. This is almost twice the total produced by China over the same period. However, China currently produces roughly twice the annual CO2 emissions as the U.S.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuel and industrial purposes in the U.S. peaked in 2005 at roughly six billion metric tons. Since then emissions have been dropping and in 2019 the U.S. emitted 5.1 billion metric tons of CO2. The U.S. has contributed the most Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel and industrial purposes in the U.S. from 1970 to 2019 (in million metric tons)
