Import volume of eggs to Germany 1990-2022

Egg imports to Germany have been fluctuating in recent years. After a peak in 2010 of almost 8.3 billion, numbers have been dwindling, with around 4.96 billion eggs imported in 2022.

A good egg

The numbers presented in this statistic are influenced by various factors, some of them being that Germany has its own established agricultural industry and therefore provides eggs domestically, as well as the fact that importing eggs is more difficult than transporting them within the country. Germany does also export eggs, where changing volumes have been recorded as well. Most recent figures saw egg exports amounting to 1.45 billion eggs in 2021.

Regular consumption

Per capita egg consumption has remained stable in Germany. In terms of organic certification, however, eggs have some catching up to do, compared to other food products.
