This statistic displays the social network user penetration rate in Germany from 2014 to 2015 with a forecast till 2021. In 2021, the share of monthly active social network users is projected to reach 53.02 percent of the total population. This would be an increase of over six percent from 46.87 percent in 2015. In absolute numbers this means an increase of 4.34 million users. The data presented covers the share of the population that uses any social network via any device.
Facebook had a leading position among social networks in Germany. It had the biggest market share of unique users among social media and micro-blogging sites. The same is true for the number of page visits. Facebook's prevalence on the market is also illustrated by the fact the it's penetration rate closely follows that of the overall social network penetration rate. In 2021, Facebook's penetration rate in Germany is expected to be 50.51 percent, only 3.01 percent lower than the overall predicted rate. In August 2016, the average time spent per person on Facebook was also by far the highest compared with other platforms.
